Nov 2007 - Second Report (98,000 miles)

2004 Audi A6 Avant 1.9TDi Final Edition 2004 Audi A6 Avant 1.9TDi Final Edition

Nothing exciting to report really but I have been trying out the new Super Diesel available on the market. Shell gives around 60 miles extra per tank (I’ve seen 670 & 680 miles on a full 71ltr tank twice now) which makes the extra £2.80 per tank worth it, that’s if I’ve done the maths right. Total’s new premium fuel "Excellium" claims 30 miles extra which doesn’t make it worth it to me in terms of MPG but it does feel more responsive in the mid range. BP "Ultimate" is expensive but again seams to have more pulling power across the range but no extra mileage. Would I seek it out to use it in the Audi everyday? Probably not, but I know if I fill up with it I can feel the difference. Of course the other question is how much extra does it cost to produce?

A few people have asked if I’ve lowered the rear suspension; it feels OK but it is riding a little closer to the black stuff so I am going to have it checked out. The AirCon has developed a smokey taint on start up, not unlike a faint whiff of Laphroaig Whisky which is, in my mind, not a bad thing but it might be time to try one of these deodorising additives available in Halfords, watch this space.

It’s coming up to three years old and with 98,000 miles on the clock it should be due for a change, but the replacement I’ve got my eye on is not due for launch until March so I am going to hang on for a few extra months. Given how wonderfully comfortable this car is it’s no great hardship.
